Fitting Hanging Basket Brackets

Fitting Hanging Basket Brackets

We often get asked how to install our hanging basket brackets, here’s a short guide.

Firstly, get the height correct, don’t forget to allow for drop-chains and the basket itself. Before drilling ideally you should choose a location on the wall where the screws will pass into solid brick, not the cement joint – brick offers the strongest fixing position.

Using a drill and masonry bit (a suitable size would likely be 6mm), drill the holes where required, taking all the usual precautions when using power tools, working up a ladder and keeping the grit from your eyes etc. Fit some screw-plugs into the holes of the correct size and ones that match the screws you have. The best screws for brackets are the “black Japanned dome-head” or “half-round” style in a size of at least 1-1/4″ or 32mm long, bigger is generally better.

If you have purchased one of our ornate scrolled corner wall brackets, the mounting arms may need to be gently shaped to fit the wall snugly. This shaping is required as, to enable a stronger joint between the arms and the bracket we have to allow a small flat portion at the joint.

Fitting Rustics Natural Finish Brackets

If you are fitting ourĀ themed hanging basket brackets, extra care should be taken when handling or fitting to avoid any risk from the highly detailed designs which can be a little sharp in places, a long screwdriver helps a lot here or a screwdriver-drill tool. All brackets should be placed at a safe height.

Our Rustics natural finish brackets arrive as plain steel, they are not coated in any special product. You will see welding and possibly grinding marks on them, these will not affect the final result. They are designed to be exposed to the weather when, after some months, they will gradually change colour as the surface starts ageing.

To allow this ageing process to happen, care must be taken to keep the new metal free from any grease or oil as this will slow the process and leave an uneven finish until the oil wears off, it will then catch up.

Do not overload any wall bracket, the maximum weight limitĀ of ours is approximately 15kg for the themed range and 10kg for the ornate scrolled range.
